About
Who we are
Gippsland Ports is a Committee of Management established in 1996 to manage the State Government™ Ports and Harbours functions for the five designated Local Ports of Gippsland, and four waterways.
Gippsland Ports is the designated waterways manager of over 1,400 sq km of some of the largest and most beautiful waterways in Australia, stretching from Anderson Inlet to Mallacoota over 720 kms of the south-eastern coastline of Victoria.
Waterway Management responsibilities include navigation, port operations, regulation, security and compliance, boating safety, incident management, emergency response, maritime security, oil spill response and salvage and dredging and sand management.
Gippsland Ports also operates several vessel repair facilities, consisting of two boatyards offering most repair and maintenance services, and three basic slipping facilities.
Paynesville is home to the largest operation, housing a boatyard with a full range of maintenance activities, a 40 tonne travel lift and the largest capacity slip (120 tonne) between Westernport Bay and the NSW border.
Bullock Island boatyard operates a 100 tonne travel lift to cater for the larger vessels, whilst the slipways at Port Welshpool, Mallacoota and Port Franklin cater for vessels up to 50 tonne, 16 tonne and 8 tonne respectively.
